Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • By definition, it means “a feeling of fellowship or friendship.” To us, it means to build a meaningful connection that lasts a lifetime. Someone that you can always trust and belly laugh with. Someone who can help you when things get hard and someone who can always brighten your day

  • Homekeep is just like housekeeping. It entails simple home chores like dusting, vacuuming, doing laundry, making meals, or taking the trash out to allow your elderly loved one to remain safe and clean in their own home.

  • Well, the first thing you should do is connect with Camryn by phone or email and book a free virtual consultation. This is a great initial way to find out if we are the right fit for each other. You can expect this consultation call to be approximately 20-30 minutes. Based on our conversation, we will then book an in-home assessment with you and your loved one to further look into how we will spend our time together.

  • Our services are provided wherever your loved one resides within Halifax Regional Municipality. (Halifax Central, Bedford, Sackville, Dartmouth, Hammonds Plains, Timberlea, Tantallon, etc.) While our main focus is to keep Seniors in their own homes, we meet your elderly loved ones whether they live in their own homes, apartment, condo, assisted living, retirement living or long-term care facilities. We are here to support them and elevate their well-being for brighter, happier days. It's what we do best!

  • You can expect us to be just like a friend or extension of your family! Think of us as someone you can always lean on, and ask for support when you and they need it most. Our visits are truly shaped around what you, your family, and your elderly loved one want and need. At any time, you can ask us to change how we spend our time together, include something more or ask us to be watchful, we absolutely will. Our services are always personalized around you and your loved one.

  • Because our services and approach really are shaped around the wants and needs of you and your loved one, we try our best to always work around your scheduling preferences. We see some clients three times per week and others daily. We have both packages and custom hourly rates available.

  • If booking hourly services, our minimum amount of hours per visit is 2 hours.

  • No, we do not. Because our services are companionship-based, we really are focused and tuned into elevating your loved one’s well-being and making their days better and brighter! We can help with things like doing their hair, helping them remember to brush their teeth, medication reminders, personal hygiene prompts, supporting them into the bathroom or shower, but not physically assisting with showering or toileting. If your loved one requires support with personal care, and activities of daily living, we have some trusted resources and organizations that we can share with you in addition to our services.

  • Most importantly, we are a locally owned and operated company. Meaning you get faster replies and will always be in close contact with the owner about your loved ones support. We are also a female-owned company. The owner, Camryn, founded Golden Living when she was just 21 years old.

Camryn has an extensive background and education in Therapeutic Recreation Gerontology (Recreation Therapy). She has worked in many different Geriatric healthcare settings, and understands the process of aging and the many diseases and illnesses associated with aging.

Our company follows many aspects of the Eden Alternative Philosophy. The Eden Alternative™ philosophy of care focuses on eliminating loneliness, helplessness and boredom from the lives of seniors living in aged care communities or their own homes by creating opportunities, meaningful engagement and spontaneity.

Our approach and 1:1 services are wellness-focused. We are dedicated to defeating loneliness and isolation for seniors aging in place through our companionship services that focus on their physical, emotional, social and intellectual well-being. We truly are committed to elevating the quality of life and well-being of you and your elderly loved one.

We also host community events and day programs for seniors and those living with dementia. Be sure to stay on top of our social media and email list for updates.

We have a no-scrub policy! Because we follow the Eden Alternative, we do not wear your typical scrub attire. We come dressed in regular clothes, just like a friend would. We believe our no-scrub policy creates a level of trust and support from the very beginning.

  • Yes! Consistency is key! This is one of our core values and promises. You can always count and have peace of mind that the same companion will be there each and every visit.

  • Yes, we sure do! It's one of our promises. Whether you live nearby or live far away, we want you always to feel involved in the care and support of your loved one. We know it can be difficult and an adjustment to feel supported at first, so we want to make sure you are always informed every step of the way.

  • Of course! We are fully insured, and all of our companions have a criminal record and vulnerable sector check, in addition to CPR First Aid and experience working with the elderly. We believe that personality and integrity are everything when recruiting our companions.
